Art Direction, Brand Identity


Kommunalbedarf is the online shop for Kommunalverlag based in Vienna, Austria. The publishing house launched an online shop for products sold to the communities throughout lower Austria. They needed a brand identity that was more innovative and could still feel like it belonged to the new corporate identity.

The new logo design symbolizes a shopping cart. Rather than presenting future customers with a direct visual representation of a cart, it seemed more suitable to abstract the cart using the letter ‘K’ from the kommunalverlag corporate identity. It was important not to present future customers with a direct visual of a shopping cart because it can often have negative connotations and associations with spending and consumption.

The logotype that accompanies the logo uses the same typface for the corporate identity in order to reinforce their direct association. The grey colour used for the main logo reflects the theme that will be used throughout the online shop while the red highlights the Austrian background (in association to the colours of the flag).
